Accumulators – Solutions for Low Water Flow Applications
Water pressure and flow can fluctuate, especially during peak usage times such as mornings and evenings, leading to reduced mains pressure. Accumulators address this issue by storing water under static or resting pressure, ensuring a more consistent supply.
Even if mains pressure is sufficient, the design and condition of the plumbing—particularly the pipes connecting your home to the mains—can significantly reduce both pressure and flow by the time the water reaches your taps. Accumulators help mitigate these challenges, delivering reliable water performance.
Imagine a tennis ball leaving the racket, The further the ball travels, the slower and less power it has. The air resistance is slowing the ball. The ball is the water and the air your water pipes so you can see the longer the run, the less power. With an accumulator we store all the power at point of use i.e. the ball power just after if leaves the racket head. The significant increase is easy to understand.
Properties that have a shared supply are more likely to experience low water pressure and flows especially in peak times.
If your mains pressure is below 2 bar static/resting, we recommend installing a pressure boosting pump to elevate it to an optimal level of 3 to 4 bar.

Remember GWS accumulators operate on a 60% volume to use ratio meaning a 300 litre vessel gives 180 litres of powerful water before returning to mains flow.
To find your vessel usage times vessel size by 0.6.
An average shower/bath runs at 10-12 litres/min. So 300 litre GWS x 0.6 = 180 litres. This will operate 2 showers at 12 litres/min for 180 / (12 litres/min x 2 ) = 7.5 minutes.
