Does your water pump need to be repaired?

Rainwater harvesting allows you to reduce your water bill and offers you protection from droughts and dry periods. However, in order to collect rainwater effectively, you need to ensure that your rainwater harvesting pump is kept in good working condition. 

If your water pump develops a fault, it may harvest water less efficiently or eventually stop working altogether. It’s therefore important to be aware of your pump’s condition and have it repaired or maintained as soon as you see something wrong.

Of course, spotting a fault is a lot easier if you know what to look for. So we’ve come up with a list of three signs that there may be something wrong with your water pump. If you spot any of these indicators, you should have your pump maintained or repaired by a professional as soon as possible.

1. Leaking

Leaking is the clearest, most visible indicator that something has gone wrong with your pump. Your device should be pumping without leaking any water. If your device is leaking, it means it has lost its integrity and may have a rupture or split that could affect its inner workings. Leaks can cause more serious problems if they are left unchecked, so you should have your pump repaired as soon as you notice one.

2. Strange noises

Pumping water obviously isn’t a silent process. However, you should be wary of excessive noise(s) that seem to suggest that the pump is under stress. If your water pump makes any strange noises, you should consider having it repaired at the first convenient moment, as these can be indicative of deeper problems. Water pumps are sturdy, reliable machines, but that doesn’t mean they can’t suffer from internal problems. The sound of your pump is a good barometer of its general health.

3. Inefficiency

Is your pump producing less water than usual? If it is, it might be the result of an internal fault. Of course, sometimes pumps don’t produce as much water as usual because there isn’t enough for them to harvest. However, if your pump is producing very little water despite the fact that there should be plenty to harvest, it probably means it is suffering from a fault. You should have it repaired before it stops working completely.
